Our client is an independent media company with a number of cool and highly trafficked web properties. Over the past 8 years they have organically grown to about 35 staff in Sydney, with slightly over one third in the tech team. They presently require two senior back end engineers.

From a technical standpoint, both roles are very similar (refer below). One of the roles will also have more of a managerial / commercial focus, playing 2IC to the team lead. In essence, a “geek that speaks” and appreciates the pragmatics of commercial reality as well as the in-depth technical intricacies.

The key technical requirements are:
- Very Strong OOP in PHP
- Practical experience of using Design Patterns in application design
- Strong MySQL5 experience (designing schemas, views and stored procedures)
- Working knowledge of the MVC framework.
- Knowledge in the use and implementation of RESTful webservices.
- Working knowledge of XML and XSLT
- Experience in high availability and scalability solutions
- Extensive experience with Apache.
- Linux (RHEL5) server knowledge
- Experience in using and implementing memcache caching
- Exposure to version controlling.
